What does this index measure?
- indicates how well the student is able to memorize new information, hold it in short term memory, concentrate, and manipulate that information to produce some result or reasoning processes
- an important component of learning and achievement, and ability to work effectively with ideas as they are presented in the classroom

- Holding information while performing some task (i.e. mental math, holding a conversation while completing a difficult task)
- Important in higher level thinking, learning, and achievement
- Taps into concentration, planning ability, cognitive flexibility, and sequencing skill
- Can be sensitive to anxiety
